The Role: Trainee UK medical sales reps are based in the field and typically visit GPs, practice managers, nurses and pharmacists within Primary Care and potentially visit hospitals within a specific geographical territory. A typical day will be a mix of formal appointments and speculative calls promoting pharmaceutical or healthcare products to healthcare professionals. You will undergo an initial training course which will provide you with knowledge of specific products, therapy areas and how to promote them in a very competitive environment.

Skills & Experience Required:
Educated to degree level or equivalent - Scientific degree or A-Level
Willing to study for industry qualification

My Client is looking for a fiery and bubbly Sales Executive to work on one of their monthly consumer titles. This is a great opportunity for someone who has a passion for the media, great communication skills and sales experience.

The ideal candidate will be a graduate, or non-graduate with previous experience in a customer facing environment. This is a really exciting role that will involve calling up clients such as L'Oreal, BMW and Nike to sell advertising space in the classified section of the Magazine. Upon hitting targets and meeting deadlines you will be promoted into a Display sales role meeting with clients face to face and presenting to them on a daily basis. This is an amazing role for a tenacious and resilient individual to work in a sociable and pro-active environment whilst making lots of money!

So what is Media Sales?

Wherever you see or hear an advert, be it on the TV, in a newspaper or magazine, on the radio or even on the side of a bus then someone "sold" it, they sold the space in which that advert appeared. And that's what media sales is; selling advertising space to clients on behalf of a media owner.

 And what skills are required?

A specific degree discipline isn't required, your personal skills are far more important.

To succeed in Media Sales you are required to sell to and build long term business relationships with senior personnel at your clients. They could be Marketing Directors, HR Directors or even Managing Directors, so intelligence, gravitas and strong communication skills are paramount.

As clients have a wide choice of where they can advertise your role is to persuade them that your magazine/newspaper/radio station is the most appropriate for them. To succeed at this you need to understand their business and demonstrate how and why their advert will work the best in your media product, as opposed to anywhere else. To do this determination, professionalism and strong powers of persuasion are essential.

What will I be doing?

To begin with your role will be selling advertising space over the telephone; this is where you learn the sales skills and gain media industry knowledge that will be the bedrock of your future career. You generally start off selling smaller adverts, called classified adverts and when you have proved yourself here career development can be swift. Your role will evolve to selling complicated, long term advertising campaigns to larger clients requiring you to meet your clients face to face and present how and why your media products fit with their marketing strategies. If man management is an area you want to progress into, then it is an option too.
